Simple, Hidden Design

Blue Ox Base Plate With Arms AttachedBlue Ox Base Plate Arms Removed

This base plate's hidden design creates a clean and seamless look. The bracket arms are easily removable, creating a slick appearance when you're not flat towing. Because the arms can be removed, you also won't have to worry about banging your leg into any protruding arms when you walk by.

Blue Ox Base Plate Removable Arms

Attaching and removing the bracket arms is a breeze. To attach the arms to the base plate, simply insert them into the receivers and rotate them until they lock into place. Once you're finished towing and want to remove the arms, pull the pin to disengage the lock, rotate the arms, and remove them from the receivers. Finally, plug up the now empty receivers with the included receiver covers to help keep dirt and debris out of the base plate and provide a finished look.

Guide to Flat Towing

Flat towing your vehicle is much more convenient than using a trailer or a tow dolly. These other options take up much more storage space, leaving you less room both at home and at the campsite. In addition, securing your vehicle to a trailer or tow dolly can be a hassle and more time consuming than hooking up with a tow bar.

There are 5 basic components needed when flat towing a vehicle: a tow bar, a base plate kit, a safety cable set, tow bar wiring, and a supplemental braking system.

Towing Basics

The tow bar links your towed car to your motorhome. It attaches to the custom-fit base plates that install on the frame of your towed car. Safety cables ensure that your towed car does not separate from your motorhome in the event that your tow bar becomes detached. Tow bar wiring allows your towed vehicle's signal lights to sync up with your motorhome's tail lights, which is required by law in most states. Finally, the supplemental braking system - also required in most states - brakes your towed car when the brakes in your motorhome are activated, preventing wear on the motorhome and decreasing braking distance for your entire setup.

  • Recommended Base Plates and Braking System to Flat Tow A 2016 or 2017 Ford Edge
For a 2016 or 2017 Ford Edge, I'd recommend the Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms, # BX2667 for SE and SEL models excluding 2.0L EcoBoost. These base plates are a custom fit for specific vehicles, so depending on what vehicle trim/model you purchase, you will want to make sure you get the right base plates. I recommend the Blue Ox Patriot Radio Frequency Portable Braking System # BLU37TR for your braking needs. This is a proportional braking system that will give you full-power emergency...

  • Recommended Base Plates and Components for 2018 Ford Edge Titanium with Adaptive Cruise Control
For your 2018 Ford Edge Titanium there is only one base plate kit confirmed to work with the Adaptive Cruise Control. It is the Blue Ox Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms # BX2667 which will then require the adapter # RM-031 which works on Sterling tow bars with serial numbers up to 16,500. If the serial number on your tow bar is 16,501 or above, then the adapter # RM-031-5 is the correct fit. For your tow bar wiring, I recommend the RoadMaster Sterling All Terrain Towing Combo Kit # RM-9284-2...

  • Parts Needed to Flat Tow a 2015 Ford Edge Titanium Behind a Motor Home with Unified Tow Brake System
For tow bar wiring to activate the tail lights on your 2015 Ford Edge Titanium when flat towing it behind a motor home you have a few options. But since you are using a supplemental braking system I recommend using 6 diodes. First you would need the 4 diode kit, # RM-154, and then 2 additional diodes, # RM-792. You would then wire it up like the picture I have included. This will only work if the motor home also has turn signals that are on a different bulb than the brake lights. If the...

  • Items Needed to Flat Tow 2017 Ford Edge Behind Class A RV
If you're switching towed cars and want to get away from the tow dolly method of transporting your car behind your Class A RV then you will no longer need the trailer brake controller used to activate the brakes on the dolly. You will need a different type of braking system for the new towed car, one that installs in it. This is among the items you'll need to flat tow a vehicle capable of being towed in this manner. I checked the online edition of the owner's manual for the 2017 Ford Edge...

  • Parts Needed to Tow a 2018 Ford Edge Behind a Motorhome
I checked out the owner's manual for your 2018 Ford Edge and it looks like you can flat tow most variations of the Edge but if you have the 2.0L EcoBoost with an automatic transmission (6F35) then you need to tow it using a dolly or with all 4 wheels off the ground. For the tow dolly option I recommend using the Roadmaster Tow Dolly # RM-2050-1 which has electric brakes. To activate the brakes you will also need a 6-Way connector like part # PK11604 or a 7-Way connector like part # PK12706....

  • Can I Flat Tow a 2018 Ford Edge Behind a 2021 Tiffin Wayfarer 25TW
It looks like a Tiffin Wayfarer 25TW has a towing capacity of 5000-lbs and the curb weight of a 2018 Ford Edge tops out at 4400-lbs roughly, so you should be able to flat tow that vehicle behind it without any issues. You'll want to consult with the dealer or Tiffin for confirmation on this. When it comes to your 2018 Ford Edge, there are some variations of the Edge that are not flat-towable; if you have the 2.0L EcoBoost with an automatic transmission (6F35) then you need to tow it using...

  • Can All Wheel Drive 2016 Ford Edge Titanium be Flat Towed Behind Motorhome
So I did some research on whether or not your 2016 Ford Edge Titanium AWD can be flat towed and it looks like the deciding factor is the engine size. If you have the 4 cylinder 2.0 liter engine you can't flat tow it and it must be towed on a trailer. If you have the V6 engine though you are totally safe to flat tow the vehicle as long as you follow the procedures listed in the owners manual. The Blue Ox base plate kit you'd need is the part # BX2667 if you have adaptive cruise control...

  • Can Blue Ox Flat Towing Parts from 2013 Ford Edge Fit a 2018 Ford Edge SEL
You will be able to use your Blue Ox braking system and tow bar but you will need new base plates. The 2013 and 2018 Ford Edge SEL use different base plate designs. Base plates # BX2657 work with SEL models that do not have Active Cruise Control or the 2.0 EcoBoost motor. And they will not fit models with the Driver Assist Package. If your 2018 does have Active Cruise Control but not the EcoBoost 2.0 liter motor then you can use base plates # BX2667. These base plates will be compatible...

  • Recommended Parts to Flat Tow a 2017 Ford Edge Titanium
Yes, disconnecting the battery with a Quick-Disconnect, like the Deka part # DW05312, will be the easy way to go when it comes to disconnecting the battery on your 2017 Ford Edge so it can be flat towed. Disconnecting the battery prevents it from draining while you are flat towing. Since the owner's manual states that the battery must be disconnected I strongly recommend following those instructions and not trying to get by it somehow. That is one of the down sides to flat towing with...

  • Is the Blue Ox BX2667 Base Plate Compatible with the Blue Ox Aventa Tow Bar
Yes. The Blue Ox # BX2667 baseplates for a 2016 Ford Edge are compatible with the Blue Ox Aventa tow bar without using an adapter. This base plate kit has removable arms to allow your Edge to have a clean looking front end when you're not flat towing.

  • What is the Installation Time for the Blue Ox Base Plates BX2667 on 2016 Ford Edge
An experienced installer can expect 3-4 hours to complete the installation of the Blue Ox Base Plates for 2016 Ford Edge # BX2667. This is rough estimate and is going to vary depending on the tools that you have available and your experience doing this type of installation. I've linked our installation video of these base plates on a similar Ford Edge that you can use to follow along with and it will definitely help with the process!

  • Availability of Base Plates for Flat Towing a 2015 Ford Edge
We do have a confirmed base plate fit for your 2015 Ford Edge. Blue Ox part # BX2667 will indeed fit the 2015 Ford Edge SEL as long as it is NOT the EcoBoost version. Base plates are one of five components needed to safely and legally flat tow. The other items include a tow bar such as the Blue Ox Alpha # BX7380 (which includes the required safety cables), a lighting/wiring kit like # TLL21RK and a supplementary braking system like the Blue Ox Patriot # BLU37TR. • Parts Necessary to Flat Tow a 2017 Ford Edge
According to the owner's manual of your 2017 Ford Edge the vehicle can be flat towed with a 2.7L V6 EcoBoost, though are a number of parts you will need in order to do this, starting with compatible base plates. The ones you need will depend on the model of your Edge; I recommend the Blue Ox # BX2667 if you have either the SE, SEL or Titanium model of Edge. If you have a Sport model, the base plates you need are going to depend on whether or not you have Active Cruise Control. Roadmaster...

  • Tow Bar Wiring Options for a 2016 Ford Edge
All of the tow bar wiring harnesses we have for the 2016 Ford Edge are indeed magnetic light kits. There are no other alternatives recommended for this vehicle. I have included a link to the options for you. Among them is # RM-2120, a magnetic tow lights kit. It also looks like the battery has to be disconnected to flat tow the vehicle. To do this automatically when you connect the RV to the Edge you can use quick battery disconnect kit # RM-766.
